The Difference Between Industrial Computers And Ordinary Computers

Jun 03, 2021

Industrial computers have large and small sizes, and their motherboards are not compatible with ordinary computer motherboards. If the industrial control motherboard is small, there is still a way to modify it into an ordinary chassis. But if it is very large (such as rack-mounted server products), it cannot be installed in an ordinary chassis.

The goal of industrial computer is to be stable and reliable. It only runs a certain type or type of control software, so its performance is not necessarily high. It is also possible that the performance of some industrial computers is 10 years behind the current PC computers. At the same time, industrial control computers may have many boards that are not ordinary computers, which are used to connect the controlled signals. These boards may be relatively large and cannot be fully modified.

Industrial computers are generally heavier. If you need to change the case, the motherboard is relatively large, and the small case cannot fit. The heat dissipation of industrial computers is generally better. There are many and noisy fans. For household use, it may be better to change to a fanless or silent one.

Simply put, an industrial computer is equivalent to the host of a computer. Because the industrial computer covers the motherboard, CPU, memory, hard disk, graphics card and other components that we need in ordinary computers.

We know that an ordinary computer host needs a keyboard, a mouse, and a monitor. In fact, the same goes for industrial computers. Since the basic structure of an industrial computer is similar to that of a computer, why do people rarely use an industrial computer as a computer in ordinary commercial use?

Speaking of this issue, we have to talk about the characteristics of industrial computers. Industrial control machine:

1. Good compatibility, absorb the functions of ordinary civilian or commercial computers, and can directly run various application software of ordinary computers on industrial computers.

2. The chassis adopts a steel structure, which has high anti-magnetic, dust-proof and impact-proof capabilities, which is not available in ordinary civilian or commercial computers.

3. Good expandability. The backplane slot of industrial computer is composed of multiple slots of ISA and PCI bus, which can be plugged into various boards, including CPU card, display card, control card, I/O card, etc.

Although industrial computers have great advantages in stable operation, their encryption is relatively low, so they are rarely widely used in civilian or commercial applications.
